CED: English Corpus from dialogues 1560–1760

The Corpus of English Dialogues 1560–1760 (CED) is an English corpus made up of English historical texts. The corpus was released in spring 2006 and consists of 1.2 million words of dialogues of Early Modern English speech-related texts. The corpus compilation was prepared by  Merja Kytö and Jonathan Culpeper, in collaboration with Terry Walker and Dawn Archer, at Uppsala and Lancaster Universities.

Access policy

To get access, please fill in and sign the CED User Agreement, scan it and send it to Merja Kytö (merja dot kyto at engelska dot uu dot se) with a note you would like to access the corpus in Sketch Engine. Include your username in Sketch Engine. (This is a manual process that may take several days.)

Part-of-speech tagset

The CED corpus was tagged by TreeTagger using Penn TreeBank tagset.
