TickBox Lexicography

TickBox Lexicography (TBL) is a technology facilitating the collection of good dictionary examples for building dictionaries with a click of the mouse. It combines the benefits of Word Sketch and GDEX to easily generate dictionary entry drafts. TBL can also be used by authors of teaching materials looking for suitable sentences for language exercises. TBL reduces significantly the time needed to research and collect examples of use.

When TBL is activated

  • the user generates a Word Sketch and uses the mouse to select the collocates which should be included in the dictionary
  • Sketch Engine will generate a list of GDEX for each selected collocation
  • the user uses the mouse to select the best examples and saves them together with the collocations into an xml file ready for import into a dictionary editing software. The xml file serves as a template for the future dictionary entry. The xml file is user customisable to ensure compatibility with any external software.

TBL is not available to users by defualt. It has to be activated and is subject to an annual fee. Please contact us for a quote.
